Digital Camera Specifications
Digital cameras have taken 90% of the consumer market leaving
film far behind. People love taking picture with no limitations of quantity, yet when it comes to viewing the pictures the good old paper is
still the most appriciated method by far. Viewing pictures in an album makes the experience more enjoyable and special.
Digital cameras price may varydepanding on it's specifications. How many megapixels? What lens? Optical
zoom? All these and many more factors influance the price of a camera. Before commiting to a camera, one must find out what needs are there. Once
the needs are known, choosing a camera accourding to it's specs is made easier.
Some of the main specs one must examine are:
SLR (Single Lens Reflex Viewfinder)
Most present day consumer cameras, shy away from this feature. They come equiped with a LCD
screen instead. The view finder, however, is a more accurate method to view the exact frame the camera shoots. The sun may obscure the view in
the LCD, but not in the SLR. Nevertheless, major manufactures have realized consumer tandency to use only the LCD and that is the reason for the
SLR cameras decrease number in the market.
Interpolation
Method that cameras use to fill in color holes in a picture's pixels. This feature may improve
resolution, but the contrust and sharpnes of the picture would be compremized. This is due to the action cameras take once incountering color
holes (blending those holes with estimate colors). Cameras that are low in resolution but high in interpolation do not provide sharp bright
pictures.
Compression
This feature determins how the picture is
stored digitally. There are different formats that are made by different companies. There are compresion methods such as gif are better in
storing 2 dimention images while jpg is better with 3 and carries more depth posibilities. Tiff is as good as jpg and does not lose it resolution
with time.
There is much more to compression and other specs. Exploring ones needs is essential in making a wise
desission.
